What changed because of this work

Three questions, answered by the guru, checked by the research team. Not what they think. What they changed.

01 · The problem

A one-brand company that ran on fear

WD-40 Company in 1997: one famous can, a small team, and a culture where mistakes were hidden and people waited to be told what to do. Growth had stalled because nobody felt safe enough to try anything.

Field prompt: what was broken, for whom, and what it was costing.
02 · The original method

The Learning Moment and the Tribe culture

Replaced “mistakes” with learning moments: a positive or negative outcome of any situation that is openly shared to benefit all. Built the Tribe around belonging, psychological safety and the Awareness, Intention, Behavior, Results loop, with coaching in place of managing.

Field prompt: the framework in one paragraph, and what makes it yours.
03 · The measurable result

Engagement most companies only read about

93%employee engagement, WD-40 Company (industry norm around 30%)
$250Mto$2.5Bmarket value, 1997 to 2022, pending confirmation

The 93% is measured, published and sustained across years, not a one-off survey. The company went from one product in a handful of markets to 176 countries under the same culture.

Field prompt: the number before, the number after, the period. Volume (“trained 40,000 people”) does not qualify.
