Changes in the Corporate Office Model to Remote Workers in 2021

June 11, 2021

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 during the early stages of 2020, people throughout the corporate world have been forced to work from remote locations. As people got used to their new work environment, there have been plenty of changes made to the way people do their jobs.

Things like security, efficiency and productivity have been factors that corporations want to improve. A lot of people are expected to work from remote locations, even after the pandemic is over, so it is not surprising there have been changes made.

Working from home is not a new thing, however, there has been a growing number of those working remotely over the past decade, even before the pandemic began. From 2011 to 2019 the number of those who worked at least one day a week from home increased by 400%. There are businesses like https://www.delonixteams.com/ who have been helping employees work from remote areas for many years.

Virtual Data Room (VDR)

A few decades ago, very few corporations used a VDR to store confidential files and folders, instead, they used physical data rooms. Unfortunately, there were and still are plenty of issues with physical data rooms. Over time the physical data could get damaged, or even destroyed. People in the corporate world worried about the security, and felt it was inconvenient for their employees.

During the pandemic, experts have advised us to stay indoors, as physically going to the office might not be an option. Instead, corporates have been employing VDRs as an alternative. This is a fast, and efficient way for those involved in the business to access, view, store and edit sensitive files and folders online. These highly secure data rooms are ideal for corporations, and it seems like more and more businesses, whether they are small or big, are investing in VDRs. The cost of running a VDR is often a fraction of the price of running a physical data room. Because they are widely accessible, they are ideal for those working from a remote location.

Running a VPN

A lot of businesses ask their employees to run a highly secure VPN (Virtual Private Network) service when they are connected to the internet. Employees often store and edit sensitive data on their devices, and if these files fell into the hands of a cybercriminal, they could hold the company to ransom. A VPN will mask the employees original IP address and replace it with a new one. If they are sending confidential work documents online, running a VPN will make it much harder for hackers to gain access.

Most corporations will tell their employees what VPN service they would like them to use. Making sure you use a quality VPN will increase your online security. Cybercriminals are known to target big corporations, because they feel that they can extort a lot of money out of them. Corporations are well aware that they are being targeted, so it is no wonder why they encourage their employees who are working remotely to use the service.

Time Tracking Apps

Without having a disciplined workforce, corporations will suffer when their employees are working from remote locations. When people work from home, there are often lots of things that can distract them from their work, and because they are not in an office environment, they feel they can get away with it. Without having someone looking over the employees shoulders, it’s not easy to make sure their work is being done. Corporations have had to look at alternative options to help ensure productivity.

This year, a lot of corporations have adopted time tracking apps. These apps are designed to keep track of how long each of their employees is working for and what they are doing during working hours.

Communication Tools

Before the outbreak of Covid-19, very few of us were familiar with communication tools like Zoom. These days it seems like everybody is using the communication platform, not just for work, but to socialize with friends and family members too.

For corporations to grow, communication is key. For a business to make progress while most of the employees are working from home, having a reliable communication tool is very important. Employees and employers have to be in constant communication with each other. Being able to speak with your remote team and organize meetings is critical. It’s hard to imagine how corporations would have managed during the unprecedented times without having these modern communication tools.

However, finding the right communication tool can prove challenging, and making sure each of the employees has a reliable and fast internet connection is important. The tool must allow you to speak to people online and organize private meetings. Communicating with other employees through a communication tool online must work smoothly, otherwise, it might have a disastrous impact on productivity.
